Pantone selects a different color of the year, every year. For that year, we’ll see new clothing, shoes, decorations, and more coming out in that color. Then next year, when the new color is announced, suddenly everything you own is so last season and now you have to go buy all new things. Not only is this such a waste of money and time, but it is so terrible for the planet. We fall into a cycle of over-consuming and playing a role in excessive waste, which has many negative consequences. This is what consumerism does to all of us.

If we forget all about trends and what’s popular now, we can prevent this and save money at the same time. The best way is to dress in what you like. You don’t automatically like something in a commercial just because the commercial told you that you did, so why would you let pantone tell you what color you like? Of course, take this with discernment. If you do like something and it happens to be very popular, you shouldn’t stop liking it. I love pink and it’s been quite popular for a while, but I won’t let that stop me from liking pink just because I don’t follow the trends. However, I also won’t let my love for pink make me impulsively buy every pink thing I see that is out now.
This leads me to today’s topic: timeless colors. My definition of chic would include being timeless, which is why I only dress in timeless colors. Dressing in timeless clothing and colors means you’ll never be out of style, while also reducing waste and being true to yourself. Here are those colors:
White
I have three favorite colors; white is one of them. If I would show my closet, you would see most of it is white and I love it. The only thing that can ever go wrong when wearing white is that it gets dirty ☹️ but, that is what my tide stick that I carry around with me everywhere is for. A friend even asked me how I keep my clothes so clean, and the secret is the tide stick!

Wearing white makes us look clean and put together, as long as it is kept stain proof (this is very important).

Black

I know this is a lot of people’s favorite color to wear. It’s not mine, but that’s okay. I do own a few pieces in black because I do believe everyone must have a couple of black outfits in their wardrobe. Black is the color that, unlike white, is safer to wear in situations where it might get a bit dirty because the stains are not so obvious (clearly). Black clothing also looks nice on everyone, and I mean everyone. It just goes. Another benefit of black, (and every other color on this list besides maybe navy), is that anything matches with it.
Plus, black is the favorite color of so many timeless women like Coco Chanel and Audrey Hepburn. Therefore, it is an essential color to own.
I feel I must mention this, please don’t make your black go to outfit black leggings and a black t-shirt. That is for the gym and gym only. Invest in quality dresses, skirts, or pants (whatever you prefer!) for going out. And yes, that means even if you are “just” going to the grocery store. We still need to look our best because remember when we look our best, we feel our best and we all deserve to feel the queens that we are.

Beige
Beige, oh, beige. This is another of my favorite colors. This is the color that I have the second most amount of clothes in and it is slowly rising to become number one. Beige, like white, looks very clean. There is something about looking clean that elevates a look. Does that make sense in your head? Because it certainly does in mine 🤣 Anyways, beige clothing (the right kind of beige because there are so many shades of beige that are not it), will last forever in your closet and it is worth investing in.

Brown
Brown! I love brown. Brown is like a hug (coincidentally, it is the same color as coffee and hot chocolate which are both hugs in a cup). I look at someone wearing a brown outfit with gold jewelry and I automatically love her. She’s so chic. I tend to wear brown outfits in autumn because I don’t really see it as a Spring/Summer color but what’s good is that autumn comes every year, so your timeless piece will not go to waste, don’t worry.

Gray
As much as I hate to admit it, gray is a timeless color (I’m a snob, I know). Gray can be cute, I’ll say that. A plus for gray is that, unlike beige, there are many shades of gray that are classic and paired with white or black would be so cute! That’s all I have to say about gray 😬.
Navy
Okay, I don’t usually wear dark colors (besides the two outfits I have in black) but navy has become a favorite to wear once in a while. Navy is classic and a navy blazer screams old money on a Yacht, I love it. One of my favorite Spring/Summer outfits is an all-white or beige outfit with a navy blazer over it. I also love navy with white or beige for tennis and golf. Like I’ve said before, every moment is a fashion show, so yes, we must look chic while playing sports too.

Bonus:
Emerald/Hunter Green
I would like to give a little shoutout to emerald/hunter green. This color is also very “old money,” and it will never go out of style. A hunter green knit sweater with a white skirt is so cute!
Pop of Red
I would also love to give red a moment. I love red as a *pop* of color in your outfit. The French have been doing it for years with a red lipstick or a red beret! I also like red ballet slippers. What is the best about a pop of red is that it goes with all the colors I have already mentioned (besides green, please let’s not look like a Christmas tree).
What is your favorite color I mentioned? I exclusively only wear the colors I mentioned (and pink of course!), so I love all of them, but white and beige are my absolute favorites! Please remember that curating a wardrobe with timeless pieces in timeless colors does not mean you can *never* buy something trendy. If you like Pantone’s color of the year or you have a favorite color I did not include in this list, you can easily include a few pieces in that color while still maintaining your timeless wardrobe.
Watch me style different outfits in these colors!
Ethereally,
Amanda
