The Audrey Hepburn Issue

How to dress like Audrey Hepburn 🤍👑

Merriam-Webster dictionary’s definition of “classy” is “elegant, stylish”. My definition of classy is Audrey Hepburn.

In honor of her birthday that just passed on May 4, I am writing my second muse issue on the woman who has been another huge inspiration to my fashion and life. You’ll find that many of my muses have a similar style because although they are all uniquely different, they each had elegance, grace, and class.

If you have any interest in fashion, you already know all about Audrey’s iconic fashion. However, if you are someone still looking for her style/muse, let me introduce you to the icon of icons, Audrey Hepburn. The “How to be Lovely: An Audrey Hepburn Way of Life” book is my bible. While there is so much to Audrey Hepburn that made her Audrey Hepburn, her style is a massive part of that.

Shirts, Pants, & Skirts

For shirts, she really liked shirts that covered her full chest or were high necked. It’s as simple as that, even in the Summer. She was a very modest lady.

For pants, just like Grace Kelly, she also loved tailored pants. However, Audrey’s pants almost always were ankle length. One thing is for sure, her pants fit her waist perfectly and showed off her curves.

For skirts, they were long, full, and very fitted at the waist. Just like the pants, they were also ankle length or showed a bit of calves.

She loved an all-black outfit. One outfit that I really loved and wore a lot when I wore black, (many moons ago), was her long sleeve black shirt and black pants (ankle length of course). It is simple but the way she wore it made it look chic, so of course I had to recreate it and I paired it with Grace Kelly’s pearl necklace for a blended Grace and Audrey look.

She also looked so good in colored outfits. While I mainly stay away from very colorful outfits, if there was one woman that looked absolutely incredible and chic in a colorful outfit, it was Audrey Hepburn. My favorite is the baby blue and white outfit 😍 I have taken inspiration from this outfit many times!

If you find inspiration in these outfits and want to try yourself, stores like Reformation, Ralph Lauren, and Banana Republic would be great to look in!

Dresses

This is the part that I was most excited to write about. Audrey’s everyday dresses are the most iconic dresses. They are so easy to wear, look classy, and make her body look amazing. Her dresses combine the styles I mentioned above into one piece. So, the top of the dress is very modest and classy covering the full chest. The bottom of the dress is a full skirt that reaches the calves. Finally, the middle of the dress is very fitted to the waist. This full combination creates the most perfect silhouette.

To buy Audrey Hepburn inspired dresses, Odd Muse has the best options! My favorite would be the Ultimate Muse High Waist Square Neck Midi Dress 😍 Additionally, Flossy by Freddy has a few dress options that would be Audrey approved!

Shoes

If there is one shoe that I look at and think “Audrey Hepburn,” it is a classic ballet flat. In all the outfits mentioned above, a pair of ballet flats completed the look.

It’s safe to say that if you want to dress like Audrey Hepburn, you must own a pair (or 5) of ballet flats. That’s all.

Ballet flats can pretty much be found in any store these days. My favorite place to buy shoes are Vivaia Official and Charles and Keith.

Accessories

Hats

Audrey liked to wear hats and she looked really good wearing them. I think we might all know one of Audrey’s most famous looks from Breakfast at Tiffany’s wearing the black hat. It’s that iconic. But she did wear many other styles of hats with her outfits.

If you want to try out hats, Etsy has very beautiful hat options.

Scarf

Another accessory she loved and looked chic in (just like Grace Kelly) was a scarf. When she wore one, it was either on her neck, or around her head. Oh, how I wish neck scarves would look as good on me as they did on her.

Coat

Just like the ballet shoes, when I think of a trench coat, I think of Audrey. While we know she wore them in her movies such as Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Funny Face, and Charade, she also wore them in her regular life as well. That’s how much of a staple they are in her wardrobe and should be in yours too. They are classic and chic.

I could go on about trench coats because I love them so much but I already did in my Spring issue, which you can read here.

I love Audrey Hepburn so much, both who she was as a person and her style. So, I hope that this issue has inspired you to also embrace your inner Audrey Hepburn once in a while.

Here is how I channeled my inner Audrey Hepburn in the Audrey dress from Flossy by Freddy 🤍

Fashion quote of the day:

“Classy is when a woman has everything to flaunt, but chooses not to show it.”
